Sunday morning presented cold and windy for the Nowra Velo Club’s 2018 individual time-trial (ITT) championship when 18 riders braved the conditions.

There were no course records to be seen at this race but Levi Johns defended his 2017 ITT championship with a twenty four second win over Mark Astley.
A skin-tearing crash in Sydney two weeks ago for Johns didn’t didn’t stop him from being at the start line to defend his title. Johns recorded a time of 21 min 19.56 sec.
Astley endured a hard race at Dapto the previous day and was feeling the sting in his legs. His time was 21 min 43.70 sec.
Aaron Coghlan had the third fastest time and was ten seconds from Astley while the top B grade performer was Mark Williams in fourth overall position with a time of 22 min 3.57 sec.
Jade Colligan was a minute behind Williams and Ian Kielly was second in B-grade in 23 min 57.21 sec and then Henry Wakeford pulled out his best ride of the year with seventh overall and a C-grade win.
Wakeford covered the 14 kilometre course in 23 min 58.08 sec. Dean Jackson and Ben Wallis were the C- grade placegetters.
Jason Spence placed third in B-grade while Jo Chalain took a close win in D-grade ahead of Amy Mottram who took a short off-course deviation.Twelve seconds ahead of Mottram was Chalain in 27 min 16.39 sec.
Next Sunday, Nowra Velo Club will hold round seven of the 2018 Optus series at 8.30am.
This round will be graded criteriums on the Albatross Aviation Tech Park with omaderry Vet Hospital/Coffeeliscious team on as the rostered officials.
