Berry 224 received a call about the large gum tree being on fire around 11.40pm.
The tree was only about a metre away from the gable of a nearby shop. The blustery westerly winds fanned the blaze, forcing flames dangerously close to the building.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing, however it is being treated as suspicious, with the fire starting in the centre of the tree, burning up through a hollow section, with flames escaping through holes in the tree catching the higher branches alight.
Crews contained the fire before it came into into contact with the building and remained at the location until 12.50am on Sunday.
