Refugee Week, June 17-23, raises awareness about the issues affecting refugees and celebrates the positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society.
Originally celebrated in 1986, Refugee Week coincides with World Refugee Day on June 20.
The theme for Refugee Week 2018 is ‘With Refugees’.
Bay and Basin Amnesty International held a picnic at Huskisson on Saturday morning, to raise awareness of Refugee Week and to promote the Shoalhaven as a Refugee Welcome Zone.
Attendees spoke about community sponsorship of refugees, and signed a petition to refugees on Manus Island an Nauru.
Amnesty works to advocate for community-led, neighbourhood-driven solutions to increase our humanitarian intake and bring our share of refugees safely to Australia.
