Gurney, from Nowra, is one of 40 players selected from seven zones, from all across New South Wales.
The squad will have three training sessions in the coming weeks, at Bathurst, Myuna Bay and Narrabeen, before the selectors will cut the team to the final 23 players next month.
If selected in the final 23-man squad, the Nowra High School student, will play matches across three different weekends in late July and early August.
Those matches will include an invitational weekend and a tournament in the ACT before finally playing the prestigious City verse Country match in Tamworth.
The 15-year-old Gurney will balance these NSW Country Cockatoos training sessions over the next month with commitments to both Shoalhaven and Illawarra Rugby.
