Shoalhaven City Council has approved a $17 million project to prepare blocks of land for industry.
Council will build roads and install electricity, water and sewerage networks in South Nowra, Huskisson, Yerriyong and Ulladulla.
Council’s economic development manager Greg Pullen said the Shoalhaven is in a boom period.
“We’re catering for the existing demand and demand into the future,” Mr Pullen said.
“The primary motive is to be ready for businesses that want to build here and employ people.”
Council estimated the employment land expansion would result in 1124 full time jobs.
In South Nowra, some of the land will be used to provide a firefighting water supply for HMAS Albatross.
Council also approved spending $7 million on maritime projects in Huskisson and Woollamia.
“We’re going to prepare a place for boat maintenance at Woollamia, and build a wharf to allow for mussel farming in Jervis Bay and other commercial purposes, such as recreational fishing charters,” Mr Pullen said.
He acknowledged with more trucks on the road due to more industry in South Nowra, Huskisson and Ulladulla, better road infrastructure through Nowra is required.
Greg Pullen said council expects to start the Nowra Key Road Project, costing $25million, in 2019.
“The East Nowra sub arterial road is designed to relieve pressure on the highway,” he said.
Council will match state and federal funding for essential infrastructure builds mentioned above costing $50 million, chipping in $25 million.
