The Shoals Rugby Club is celebrating its 50th Anniversary of participating in the Illawarra District Rugby Union Competition. It has been a long journey to this point with many memorable moments both on and off the field. Thousands of young and not so young people have enjoyed being a part of the club through playing, supporting and administrating. Success and failure in the competitions have been met with equal measure as the simple joy of playing rugby is enough of a reason to run out onto the field.

Undoubtedly the greater feat the club has accomplished is in crafting a wonderful sporting facility out of bushland on the southern side of the township. This was no easy feat and was a driven purpose by volunteers who sought to have a home ground. Rugby Park is one of the premier sporting facilities throughout the Illawarra and stands testament to what can be achieved through committed hard work with no financial reward.

In order to set out the Club’s journey over these 50 Years the Anniversary Committee has prepared a brief historical review of its activities and achievements. This Rugby Book will be first available at the Club’s Dinner over the June Long Weekend. It contains many visual and verbal presentations of people and accounts, some anecdotal, that together sum up what has occurred during this first half century of the Club’s life and times. Among the many items of interest it contains listings of players selected in the “Teams of Each Decade” as well as “The Team of the Half Century”.

Details of the main events to be held over the June long weekend are set out below.
