Ms Woods’ story was picked up by Harbour Publishing House (HPH) in 2016 following an initial crowdfunding campaign with the intent to self-publish her work.
Now published, the book ‘Jacob’s Story: The BIG Backyard Adventure’ will be launched on May 12 at 10am at Harbour Bookshop, Ulladulla, ahead of it’s official Australasian release on May 18.
Ms Woods will do a reading and be signing copies at the free event, which is open to children and adults.
"The idea for writing Jacob’s Toys came when my son was on the verge of outgrowing many of his toys,” she said.
“He was at that in between stage where he wasn’t really interested in toys anymore but every now and then I would catch a glimpse of the little boy engaged in imaginary play.
“At the same time my partner and I won some soft toys on a skill tester during a family holiday.
“The excitement of winning all these cute soft cute toys reminded me of the magic of childhood and inspired me to write this adventure about Jacob and his toys.”
For the past eight years Ms Woods has worked as an early childhood educator in Ulladulla, where spending time reading to young children reignited her love of the written word.
"Sharing stories is one of my favourite parts of the day,” she said. “I love seeing my toddlers completely absorbed in a good story and captivated by beautiful illustrations."

In a whirlwind of chaos, Jacob’s toys are tossed into an unforgettable adventure. “I’m eight now and don’t need my soft toys anymore,” said Jacob, not realising that he was about to put his best friends through the most fur-raising experience of their little lives. From whizzing through the wash and zooming down the drain to desperately trying to flee the neighbourhood cat, Snarly face Jack.
What will become of the toys? Will they make it to their new home safely? Will Jacob realise he will never be too old for his soft toy friends?
Celebrating the concepts of friendship and loyalty, Jacob’s Toys is a heart-warming story for both young and old, which reminds us of the magic of childhood. The simple rhyming text encourages early readers’ efforts and makes it ideal for reading out loud to pre and early readers. It features stunning illustrations that bring the story to life.
