Council voted to allow Safe Shelter Shoalhaven to operate from the old neighbourhood centre at 134 Kinghorne Street, Nowra.
Council will enter into a lease arrangement with Bomaderry’s Salt Ministries - one of the groups behind Safe Shelter Shoalhaven.
Safe Shelter Shoalhaven was set up last year at the Wesley Centre as a short-term homeless solution and had the backing of all the churches in the area.
It was a relieved group of people who were still soaking up the good news yesterday - see the video below.
The team behind Safe Shelter Shoalhaven hope to have the new centre up and running as soon as possible but the site has to be rezoned.
Ratepayers will not be asked to pay for the building’s renovations as Salt Ministries will provide the funds.
Last year a local family donated $400,000 to Salt Ministries to buy a building for homeless people in the Nowra CBD.
The donation will be used to set up the new facility for homeless people.
