James Stretton, of Sussex Inlet, pleaded guilty in Nowra Local Court with Magistrate Michael Barko placing him on a 12-month good behaviour bond.
Court papers said Streeton was found at a Shoalhaven home by police on November 25 last year in possession of child abuse material.
He has appealed the sentence and the matter will be heard in Nowra District Court on April 30.
