The matter will be raised at an upcoming strategy and assets committee meeting and council staff have recommended not to increase the donation.
The agenda for the meeting stipulates Shoalhaven City Council provides $281,910 of allocated donations annually, and there is only $2,546.86 remaining in the unallocated donations budget for this financial year.
Operating costs have increased for the Eisteddfod, and council venue hire costs amount to $13,000 – the amount the Eisteddfod committee is seeking.
“While we appreciate council’s ongoing support we wish to point out the growth of the eisteddfod has been such that the School of Arts is no longer adequate for staging our three major events – School Choral, School Verse Speaking and our Stars Concert,” Eisteddfod committee president George Windsor wrote in a letter to council.
“We have been delighted to have the Entertainment Centre as the venue for these popular community events.”
Shoalhaven City Councillors will have the final word on the matter – the decision rests in their hands.
