Barbara Farrelly and Frances Rand were among the first locals to tie the knot on Tuesday.
Barbara and Frances have been together for 25 years and were grateful to finally have the opportunity for official recognition.
“It’s amazing to live a life where your choice of partner has gone from being frowned upon to being celebrated,” Frances said.
“We are gratified that most Australians feel the same way, according to the overwhelming ‘Yes’ vote in the recent postal survey.
“We hope younger members of the queer community experience less homophobia as a result of the change in the law.”
The couple were married in their Currarong home by celebrant Meryl McGinn, of Tomerong.
