It is believed to be the body of an injured sea lion, that authorities were searching for since New Year’s Day, initially seen at Burrill Lake inlet.
The Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia (ORRCA) had appealed for public assistance to locate the mammal, due to a severe wound that required urgent attention.
ORRCA vice president Shona Lorigan said she had received several calls about the carcass this afternoon, and was investigating the situation.
