Two types of coffee roasted in Nowra are helping power one of the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins class submarines the HMAS Dechaineux.
Two submariners visiting the Shoalhaven recently purchased six kilograms of coffee beans from Hit ‘N’ Run Cafe.
Cafe owner and coffee roaster Steven Fisher said the submariners specifically wanted Tiger and Burundi beans.
“They came in about six months ago to get some and they were back recently to stock up before they head off again,” Mr Fisher said.
“Some navy guys used to get coffee here but how this person got onto our coffee I don’t know. He clearly likes it though.
“They are two of our most popular beans but they’re quite hard to get at the moment,” he said.
The two submariners said they shared a tiny workstation with their manual coffee grinder and would make three fresh coffees a day.
