More than 40 Rotarians and members of the Nepalese community enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Nowra Golf Club on Saturday, November 25.

The Rotary Club of Bomaderry has been involved with helping in the effort to rebuild Nepal after the two devastating earthquakes in 2015.
The International Grant Goat Farming Project received a $500 boost on the night. The project is ready to proceed to the application stage through Rotary International.
The project goals are to empower women socially and economically through sustainable agriculture, especially goat farming to boost the agriculture and family economy in Nepal.
The opportunity is for women to engage in goat farming in Bhalukhark Village of Nepal, improving the family income that has been badly affected by the 2015 earthquakes.
Three-hundred-and-twenty people from 60 households will directly benefit from this grant.
Guests enjoyed visiting speakers Dr Krishna Hamal an economist who spoke about the people of Nepal, the economy and sustaining agriculture.
His summary slides highlighted the following:
- Nepal’s economy is struggling especially after the 2015 earthquake and recent flood.
- High unemployment rate (many men going abroad for jobs)
- Higher percentage of population is women
- Literacy rate among women in very low (whole population 48.6 per cent)
- Women are less likely to get jobs compared with men. Hence, any support to create employment for women in Nepal would certainly help to increase their level of living standard and empowering them in Nepalese society.
- He thanked the Rotary Club of Bomaderry and its members and supporters, its generous help to the Nepalese women to empower them through the proposed project of goat farming.
Ranju Thapa Wagle, CEO of the Sydney City College of Management and Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) spokesperson talked about empowering women so they can achieve their dreams and aspirations.
The NRNA has held many forums in recent years including addressing issues with Mental Health and Violence. Ranju spoke with passion about women’s issues.
The Rotary Club members were presented with scarves by Rotarian Bina Adhikary and her sister Muna, visiting from Nepal.
All enjoyed a national song played by a young lady with a Piccolo. Everyone enjoyed a fantastic night.
