In fact Mrs Angel’s death on November 20, aged 91, brought to an end 50 years of community service.
Her support and drive in the community was recognised in 2000, when she was awarded an OAM in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Lora arrived in Nowra in 1970 with her bank manager husband Keith and apart from a few years in the ’70s when they moved out of the district, she has been dedicated to the Shoalhaven, working for a number of organisations.
She was catapulted into a string of community organisations as a worker and leader for groups such as the Nowra Bowling Club, Music Shoalhaven, Save the Children Fund. and of course, Torchbearers, the main fundraising arm of Legacy.
It’s fair to say that Lorna’s Torchbearers was one of her main passions.
Her membership of ‘Torchies’ began in 1958 and in the Nowra branch she became president in 1984, retiring only recently.
She cultivated many friendships with her relentless drive and enthusiasm brought much success to Torchbearers.
She was deeply respected by business leaders and managers of service organisations in the region.
Her main sporting interest in later life was lawn bowls, and since 1983 was a member of the Nowra Women’s Bowling Club where she served in various positions on the executive committee and represented at District level.
The recent guard of honour at Lorna’s funeral by members of the Nowra Women’s Bowling Club was a testament to the affection and gratitude felt by the club.
Her musical interests involved fundraising for the Joan Sutherland Society and as a member of Music Shoalhaven.
Other interests included being president of Save the Children Fund.
Her cake making ability in support of fundraising raffles was alsos legendary.
Lorna was the beloved wife of Keith (dec) and mother and mother in law of Rhonda and John and Rosemary and Roger.
She was a grandmother to Glen, Amber, Trent, Ebony, Jeremy, Timothy and Morgan and great grandmother to Violet, Oscar, Zac and Zoey.
She was also a loving sister of Colin, Brian and Ian (all deceased) and Wendy and their families.
Lorna’s funeral was held at the Nowra Uniting Church on November 23.
