The carnival, which has raised more than $90,000 for charities such as this year’s chosen charity – the Breast Cancer Foundation of Australia, has 10 confirmed men’s and women’s teams from across the South Coast, set to play across Saturday and Sunday.
Event organiser and founder Scott Balsar, from Bomaderry, said he was excited to once again combine hoops and fun all in the name of raising money for a good cause.
“It all started back in 2006 when my wife Carla started doing her own work for the Breast Cancer Foundation of Australia,” Balsar said.
“From that, I took the initiative that we could incorporate basketball into this – which saw the Ballin for Cure carnival be created.
“In it’s first year, we had close to 25 teams and since then we have had anywhere between 10-25 teams involved every year – depending on when in the year we held the carnival.”
All the action starts at 9am Saturday, with action running until Sunday afternoon – including the Ballin for a Cure ‘The Voice’ function at the Bomaderry RSL from 7pm Saturday.
“Even if you’re not playing, I encourage patrons to get down to the Tigers Den and get involved – with plenty of merchandise and prizes to be won across the two days,” Balsar said.
“With a couple of thousand dollars already donated, we are hoping to crack the $100,000 mark at this year’s carnival.”
