Two top class matches brought the National Indigenous Football Championships to a fitting conclusion on Saturday at Ison Park South Nowra.

The highly rated Illawarra side defeated Newcastle in the women’s final while Eura (based in Sydney) defeated a strong team from Brisbane to win the men’s championships.
Both finals matches were free-flowing contests and had plenty of dramatic moments.
The event, held over the past few days, was a great success and no doubt plans are underway to make next year’s championships even better.
Event director Bernie McLeod would had been happy with how things went
“I’m expecting a fun few days – obviously there can only be a couple of winners but at the end of the day, it’s more about indigenous people as a whole winning together through the avenue of sport,” he said in a lead up to the contests.
