Kiama MP Gareth Ward made the announcement while unveiling the completed upgrade to the roundabout at the intersection of Cambewarra and Moss Vale roads and the highway.
Fulton Hogan Pty Ltd, York Civil Pty Ltd, Downer/Seymour Whyte Joint Venture and Georgiou/Nace Civil Joint Venture have been invitied to tender for the major work later this year.
“Pre-qualified contractors were invited in July to register their interest to build the third stage of the Princes Highway upgrades between Gerringong and Bomaderry,” Mr Ward said.
Early work, in preparation for the highway upgrade is evident.
Initial clearing is taking place on the planned route, with the RMS relocating utility services, including electricity, telecommunications and water mains to make way for the highway upgrade.
New property boundary fencing has also been installed.
Mr Ward said the roundabout improvements formed part of the highway upgrade with the government providing $19 million in 2017-18 to start the upgrade.
He said improvements to the roundabout were needed to improve traffic flow for motorists.
The improvements include a left turn slip lane for motorists turning out of Moss Vale Road and travelling north on the Princes Highway, an additional lane on the northern side of the roundabout for motorists exiting Moss Vale Road and travelling south on the Princes Highway or east on Cambewarra Road.
Mr Ward said Roads and Maritime would work closely with the four companies in a lead up to the tender being awarded.
It is expected major work to build the highway upgrade will start in mid to late next year.
