And already the rumours are flying as to what business will fill the stores.
A development application for the proposed change of the use of existing building to a multi tenancy centre including bulky goods premises and an ancillary café have been lodged by Shoalhaven City Council.
Sydney company Aurrum Holdings has lodged the $2.7 million application for the 2.817ha site on the Princes Highway, behind Hungry Jacks and the Shell Fuel Coles Express convenience store and a Subway outlet.
It is proposed the 12,977 square metre Masters Home Improvement store would be split into seven separate stores, the biggest taking up half of the floor space, 6000 square metres.
The second biggest store is 1976 square metres, while there will be two of between 828 and 848 square metres, one at 712 square metres, another 607 and the smallest 485 square metres.
There will also be a small cafe with seating.
The proposal would see the open-air garden centre at the building’s northern frontage enclosed with Colorbond cladding to match the existing.
There would be no increase to the approved gross floor area (GFA) as the garden centre was included as GFA in the original Masters development.
The original development also had 329 car parking spaces.
It is estimated the proposal would provide employment on the site for approximately 150 to 200 operational jobs, in addition to employment created during construction.
In August 2016, Home Consortium acquired an interest in 61 former Masters stores across Australia.
The intention of this acquisition was for the immediate re-activation of each of these sites to ensure a sustainable and successful large format bulky goods retail offering in each case.
The South Nowra site has been identified as one of the priority sites for Home Consortium in NSW.
