Entitled Methamphetamine and our Community, the workshop will be facilitated by Dr Suzie Hudson, a social worker who has more than 17 years’ experience in the fields of substance misuse, mental health and research.
The workshop will be held at the Nowra Showground pavilion from 10am to 3.30pm [registration from 9.45am], tackling the issue of methamphetamine, which is also known as ice, crystal, meth, speed or base.
The workshop will assist families to understand methamphetamine use and the associated mental health issues and using culture.
It will provide strategies on how to assist people, their families and friends impacted by methamphetamine and identify services that are available to those who need support.
The workshop will also explore how communities can work in better partnerships to provide support and help for methamphetamine users and their families.
Dr Hudson has worked in and managed residential alcohol and drug services both in Australia and overseas and was previously the manager of the Stimulant Treatment Program at St Vincent’s Alcohol and Drug Service.
She has dedicated much of her time working alongside methamphetamine users and those supporting them.
Stimulant use was also the subject of her PhD in Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of NSW.
Dr Hudson comes with a range of experience in counselling, group work and training and with a passion for engaging in social change.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided, though a donation towards catering for lunch would be appreciated.
