The Triples draw has been posted on the noticeboard.
The men had a busy weekend with three games played in the Major Pairs competition. Sunny, cool conditions were the order of the day for the two games played on Saturday, July 24. Dennis Beazley and Bob Fowler had a great game against Bryan Green and Glenn Brindle. Dennis and Bob led 25–2 on the 11th end. Bryan and Glenn won 13 shots to 3 over the next 10 ends, unfortunately not enough to win the game. A great effort from both teams.
The other game on Saturday afternoon was between two top teams. Paul Mitchell and Craig Taylor played the father and son team of Barry Schey and Anthony Fisher. Paul and Craig won the first end with Barry and Anthony stamping their name on the game, winning 27–8, called on the 18th end.
Sunday, in glorious winter weather, Stephen Blackley and Grant Ridges took on Garry Manning and Pat Ford. Steve and Grant led Garry and Pat 17-5 on the 13th end when Garry and Pat got their act together to win the game 22–17. Thanks again to the spectators for supporting all the players over the weekend.

Culburra Ladies
Last week we celebrated the Culburra Women’s Bowling Club’s 50th birthday – and what a party is was. After enjoying a lovely morning tea, President Jenny welcomed everyone who had joined us for the day, and then, under glorious sunny skies, we had a very social game of bowls.
We were honoured to have WBNSW President Maryann Parcell, SCDWBA Acting President Ann Brandley, SCDWBA Vice President Barbara Young, Men’s Bowling Club President Jim Hibbert and Men’s Bowling Club Secretary John Rudd join us on this special occasion. Marilyn O’Day gave a short and interesting history of the club, outlining the achievements and accomplishments our club has seen over the past 50 years. President Jenny then presented our Secretary, Eliza Gunn, with a gift in recognition of the hard work and dedication she has given the club over the last twelve years. WBNSW President Maryann also presented Lorraine Foster, Jean Eagleton, Lorraine Epple, Marilyn O’Day and Jenny Castellan with the State Merit Badge – the highest honour that can be given by the State President. Joan Barnwell once again made a magnificent cake, which was enjoyed by all after lunch. A big thank you must go to all our ladies who put in so much time and effort to make this day the wonderful celebration is was.
Our Club 4’s final was held last Thursday. It was a hard fought game, with both teams playing lovely bowls. Team Marilyn O’Day, Trish Bailey, Helen Neilsen and Kristi Buckley were the winners with Eileen Hunter, Carol Turton, Anne McCauley and Nancy Carre runners up – well done ladies. One game of social bowls was played last Thursday, and Ruby Salmon and Kim Rudd had a win over Margaret Gilchrist and Annette Lappins. The District Triples are coming up and we have four teams from Culburra entered - good luck and good bowling to all.

The 2017 Club Pairs Championship has been won by David Badger and Adam Rigney by 23 to 14 from Nathan Bezant and Peter Delamont. David and Adam had a sizable lead by end six but Nathan and Peter then scored eight shots over the next four ends to put them back in contention and a further three counters on end 14 had them in the lead but consistent bowling over the remaining ends and scoring six counters on the last end saw the title go to David and Adam.
Social matches over the last Wednesday and Saturday saw Peter Webb victorious in a Cutthroat game over David Armstrong and Steve Kellett and triples matches of note saw Ken Stephens, Barry Dunn and Nick Nicholls defeat Peter Haddon, Bob Dunn and Lindsay McNamara and in another match Ken Stephens, Derek Raymond and David Lambert after scoring seven counters on end seven take the match by seven shots from Harry Harrop, Deb Folkard and Lindsay McNamara. Pairs matches saw David Lambert and David Badger defeat Harry Harrop and Terry Hayes and the other match of note saw consistent scoring by Bob Dunn and Col Good take victory from Rob Folkard and Phil Chittick.
Members are reminded that membership fees must be paid by 30th June and that the Annual General Meeting is being held on Wednesday, July 5.
Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen Men
The clear and sunny days made for pleasant bowls and all round 2 matches of the Club Major Pairs were completed. On Wednesday, one match of the Major Pairs was decided along with one Social game of Triples and four of Social Pairs. On Saturday, two matches of the Major Pairs were completed as well as one game of Mixed Social Pairs and two of Mixed Social Triples.
Wednesday, June 21, was a cold, clear day with a slight southerly breeze. The greens were running at a medium speed. Rink 1 witnessed the first game of the Club Major Pairs with Darryl Goodger and Bert Madge having to use all their accumulated knowledge to emerge victorious over a fast finishing Gary Way and Joe Meljak by 22 shots to 17. Rink 2 saw the first of the Social Pairs. After a stunning start, Rob Ray and Don Salway had to fight every minute of the game to finally achieve a close win by 20 to 17 shots. Rink 3 Joe Wright and John Edwards showed excellent concentration in overcoming their opponents and cruise home by 28 shots to 18. Rink 4 In a tough game, Michael Hill and Eddy Lee played superbly to out manoeuvre their opposition by 25 to 16 shots. Rink 5 This game witnessed a great pairing of Tom Smith and Ray Solway as they decimated their opponents by 28 shots to 11. Rink 6 saw the triples game that resulted in Matthew Rosina, David Solomon and Graham Mills playing immaculate bowls to trounce the opposition by 30 to 17 shots. Draw Results: 1st Prize Rink 6 Matthew Rosina, David Solomon and Graham Mills, 2nd Prize Rink 5 Tom Smith and Ray Solway, 3rd Prize Rink 1 Darryl Goodger and Bert Madge. First Spin Rink 4 Michael Hill and Eddy Lee. Not won.
Saturday June 24, was another wonderfully clear and chilly afternoon, with fast paced greens. Thank goodness the wind was a gentle breeze from the south. Rink 3 held the first match of the Club Major Pairs Championship for the day and was the match of the week. Michael Hill (subbing for Peter Shield) and Alessandro Lattanzio won the first end by a shot. Gary Trautsch (subbing for Mick Edwards) and John Edwards replied in the best way possible and won the next 3 ends by 5 shots. Michael and Alessandro steadied the ship with a one shot win but Gary and John just would not be held back. They won the next two ends by 3 shots each to be catapulted further into the lead by 11 shots to 2 on the 7th end. Michael and Alessandro finally found their concentration and started they charge towards the finish. A fabulous three followed by a terrific two soon had them on their way. Gary and John tried to stop the rot with a winning end but Michael and Alexandro would not be denied. Accurate bowling saw they bound into the lead on the 13th end and then draw further away till they were leading by 21 to 12 on the 18th end. Surely this was a winning score. We all know what a cruel game bowls can be and this was about to be proud right again. Gary and John finally won an end by 2 shots. Two ends to go and, yes, another shot closer on the penultimate end. They have to win by 6 shots to draw the match and send it to another end. Could they do it? A fantastic 4 was not enough to win the game but did horrible things to Michael Hill and Alessandro Lattanzio’s stomachs as they won the match by 2 shots. What a finish!
On Rink 5, John Newbold and Tim McCormack were pushed to their limits as accurate bowling by Steve Hollington and Ian Abberley had them in the lead for the first half of the match. John Newbold and Tim McCormack weathered this storm and emerged stronger at the end to take the match by 21 shots to 18. Rink 9 saw the first of the Mixed Social games. Rob Ray, Les Stuart and John O’Dell played wonderful bowls to just get home by 20 to 16 shots. Rink 10 held a pairs game that saw Gary Thurston and Sigi Ferchow fighting hard to hang on to the slenderest of leads and win by 22 shots to 21. Rink 11 Consistently accurate bowling resulted in Matthew Rosina, Gary Way and Graham Mills outlasting their opponents to win by 18 to 11 shots. Draw Results: 1st Prize Rink 10 Garry Thurston and Sigi Ferchow, 2nd Prize Rink 11 Matthew Rosina, Gary Way and Graham Mills. Players Draw Garry Thurston donated the prize back to the Draw and it was won by Wes Macpherson, who has just joined the club today. What a welcome Wes!
