The 33rd annual City of Shoalhaven Eisteddfod will kick off on Friday, May 19 and will run until Saturday, June 17.
Chairman of the major sponsor, Shoalhaven City Council, Cr John Wells said the highly-anticipated event is set to impress.
“The Eisteddfod tradition must rank as one of the greatest contribution to international culture and enjoyment, and the Shoalhaven Eisteddfod has become an integral part of that great tradition,” he said.
“As one who has grandchildren competing in the Eisteddfod I can say without hesitation that the local community looks forward to the event with great anticipation.
“Attendance at one or more of the recitals verifies the exceptional depth, breadth and quality of the talent we have in our region.”
The dance section will be the first to get underway on May 19 at the Nowra School of Arts, with the school dance troupes to show their skills. The school instrumental sections will be contested on May 31 in the same venue.
The Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre will host the major schools sessions for the Eisteddfod; the school's choral and verse-speaking sections on May 25 and June 7. Organisers said the performance on the ‘big stage’ is an experience long-remembered by students who take part.
The City of Shoalhaven Eisteddfod Committee representatives thanked all their sponsors and donors who make prize-giving possible.
Some sections carry substantial monetary awards that have greatly benefited local schools and individuals in furthering their performing arts skills.
