THE future of the South Nowra Good Guys store is up in the air, however the company says it remains committed to the area.
The South Coast Register understands the company’s lease on its South Nowra store, at the Nowra House and Home Centre in Central Avenue, ends on May 22.
It is understood, while the company is looking for a new position, at this stage it has not been able to secure a location.
The business will be making way for Services NSW which will be establishing a supercentre at the location.
The Good Guys staff have questioned their futures saying they had heard nothing from the company.
One staff member, who wished to remain anonymous, said there had been no communication with staff at all.
“We don’t know what will be happening after May 22,” the staff member said.
“We hear there has been negotiations over the Masters’ site but who knows?”
The Good Guys is owned by JB Hi-Fi and there are rumours circulating it could also be a new tenant in the never opened Masters’ complex on the eastern side of the Princes Highway.
Twenty people are employed at the South Nowra operation, with staff members saying they had “been left in limbo”.
A similar occurrence happened in February 2016 when The Good Guys made way for the new Spotlight store.
For five months staff worked on various community projects and in other Good Guys’ operations, including at the Warrawong outlet.
“We all retained our jobs and were paid,” a staff member said.
“But we have heard nothing about what is happening this time.
“A lot of us have mortgages and commitments and we don't know what is happening.”
The Good Guys chief retail officer Cory Hedin said the company was a long standing business member of the Nowra community and remain committed to having a continued presence in the area.
“While we are continuing to work towards a long term solution for our Nowra operation, our temporary store will cease trading at the end of May,” he said.
“We are in active negotiations on a number of alternatives for trading after that time and will be working with our staff over the coming weeks on the best solution based on the options available to us.
“As always our customers and our staff remain our top priority.”
