On Friday night St Georges Basin played All-Sorts in a repeat of last year’s major semi with the result again going the way of Basin who had a strong 3-0 win.
The score didn't reflect the game, as All-sorts had many opportunities to level the scores during the match.
These two teams will continue to slog it out this year, and will be tough games to play in.
The women got underway with the 2016 premiers Burrawang against Berry.
In a much improved showing Berry put it to the premiers and were unlucky not to get some points in a tight 2-1 loss.
Saturday games got underway under blue skies and humid conditions.
The second Berry team were up against All-Sorts and a tough game that went end to end ended up with a 3-0 win to Berry.
These are the two teams to watch this year, and the scores will be a lot closer as the competition continues.
Berry Black had their first hit-out in the Men’s against Shoalhaven Heads.
The Heads team, after some excellent recruiting in the off-season, showed greater speed on the ball than Berry.
A tough first half saw the scores at 0-0 with Heads keeper Matt Druitt making some great saves to keep his team in the game.
The Berry keeper Rhian Williams had to work just as hard and made a great save to deny heads taking a 1-0 lead into half time.
The second half was much the same as both teams showed more composure on the ball.
It took until the last few minutes for a short corner option to finally work for Berry to get the 1-0 win.
A tough game and Heads will be pushing a lot of teams this year.
They seem to be in top-two form early.
In the last women’s game of the week, Heads put it to All-Sorts ladies in a 5-0 win.
The last game of the day saw Berry White take on the juggernaut that is Burrawang.
Whilst the score ended 3-0 to Burrawang, Berry were not without their chances and sent a few balls wide and over the crossbar.
All in all a great first weekend, and we look forward to doing it all again this weekend coming.
