The three men will use their well-honed chainsaw skills to fell a pole onto a balloon target. Whoever is the most accurate wins the challenge.
“The fellers in the RFS are trained to fell dangerous trees after a fire has gone through the bush,” organiser Ron McKinnon said.
“They are taught to assess the tree and decide if it likely to fall on a passer-by.”
The exciting demonstration will take place in the main arena on Saturday night, from 8pm.
“People will be able to watch the demonstration in front of the grandstand where the three nine-metre high poles will be standing,” Mr McKinnon said.
The three chainsaw operators will be Walter Stannard from Wandandian, Gary (Brummy) Brumfield from Tomerong and Steve McKinnon from Tomerong. Steve was NSW RFS Chainsaw Operator Champion in 2015 and 2016.
Mr McKinnon said fire-line tree felling is the most dangerous activity when fighting a bushfire.
“Throughout the demonstration I will be explaining the technique and skills needed to safely and accurately fall a tree,” he said.
