In a lead up to the fast approaching Shoalhaven Nowra Relay for Life Stockland Nowra and Kinghorne Street will transform into a purple paradise on Saturday, February 11 in support of this year’s Shoalhaven Nowra Relay For Life.
Members of the community, small businesses, schools and community groups are all encouraged to get involved and help turn Nowra purple through the use of decorations, accessories and creative attire.
The day encourages a creative and fun lead up to the Shoalhaven Nowra Relay For Life event and the purple theme represents a strong message of hope for those who have been affected by cancer.
Relay For Life, a Cancer Council event, will return to the Nowra Showground for the 14th consecutive year from March 25-26.
Cancer Council NSW’s Community Engagement Manager, Emma White, said Relay For Life was made possible by the community joining together and uniting in the fight against cancer.
“Turn Nowra Purple Day is just one of the many ways that the Shoalhaven community are coming together to show their support for Relay For Life,” she said.
Cancer Council NSW is a 96 per cent community funded organisation so every dollar raised helps go towards funding world-class cancer research that will improve treatment and support for cancer patients and their families.
Over the past 13 years the Shoalhaven community has raised a massive $2 million.
In the Shoalhaven money raised at Relay For Life funds the provision of free transport to treatment services as well as overnight accommodation for people undergoing treatment at the Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre.
This year’s relay theme is ‘for friends, family and the future’ and aims to raise $200,000 to continue to put towards local Cancer Council NSW programs and services.
Team registrations and donations are still open for the Shoalhaven Nowra Relay For Life event.
