Jake set to show his Trew colours

Trew, 17, was selected in this prestigious team, following a dominant performance by him and his NSW side at the Australian All-Schools titles in Perth last year.

“We won all of our games convincing, only dropping points in a draw against Queensland, which was a little disappointing,” Trew said.

“Notoriously, Victoria are quiet strong in this tournament too but we managed to easily account for them 6-1.

“On the back of this success, I was stoked to be named in the Australian All-Schools squad, with 13 of the 16 man squad coming from my NSW side.”

While abroad, the team will play a number of sides from across the United Kingdom, something which really excites the Vincentia High School student.

“On the two and a half week tour, we will be playing the England Independent Schools team, as well teams from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales – with there being 10 games all up,” he said.

“It’s going to be great to compete against the top students those teams have to offer and see how their approach to football is different - they live and breath football over in Europe.

“And because I’ve only just turned 17, I’m eligible to make the team again next year again, which would be amazing, as the team toured to Japan last year.”

Trew ranks this achievement right up the top for his career, alongside playing for the Wollongong Wolves against Sydney FC in the FFA Cup last year.

“It was amazing to be able to play against an A-League team and players that I’ve grown up watching and idolising,” he said.

“It made me realise the hard work and level I need to get to, to be able to play at that level consistently.”

Upon his return, Trew will be hoping to cement his position in the under 20s Wolves side for the 2017 season.

“As a striker, I’d like to continue to try and score as many goals as I can and help my teams win every match that they take part in,” he said.

“If I can do that and continue to play to the best of my ability, I’d love to press my claims on the Wolves first grade team.”
