Susie Young has been on a mission to help The Hunger Project’s Unleashed Women movement, the world's first female-led movement empowering women to end hunger by 2030.
She surpassed her goal of $1000 and went on to raise $1300.
Along with the generosity of her friends and family, Susie’s orchid also provided a helping hand.
“My daughter works in Sydney and I was giving her limes which she sold to her work colleagues and all proceeds went to The Hunger Project,” Susie said.
“Somebody else gave her avocados to sell and her bosses matched what they raised.
“Now I just have to wait for my fruit trees to produce more fruit.”
The Hunger Project empowers women and men living in rural villages in Africa, India, Bangladesh and Latin America to end their own hunger.
The organisation reaches more than 18 million people who are transforming themselves, their families and their communities, and are bringing about the end of hunger.
While she knows everyone’s busy, particularly at this time of the year, Susie encouraged others to take a moment to help out.
“I believe in women empowering and supporting other women,” she said.
“I think it’s a very good cause and it’s not hard to help out, if you put your mind to it you’ll find you do have the time.”
