Holstein Friesian cow Coolea Deuce Dolly recently won the 2016 NSW On Farm Challenge in the two-year-old division.
“She won the two-year-old local in our region then she went into the state competition and she won again,” owner Andrew Crawford said.
Asked what made this cow stand out from the rest and Mr Crawford said it was difficult to identify anything in her breeding to suggest she would make an outstanding show cow.
“We will try and show her because she’s never been a show cow before,” he said.
“She just grew up and calved in and looked really good, so we’re going to try and get her to a show and see what happens.”
To win the competition is no mean feat. The cow went up against approximately 200 others to take out the title and had to win over two separate judges.
“We haven’t won it lately, the last time was a long time ago,” Mr Crawford said.
“You have two different judges, a local judge who you have to win through and then another judge who does the whole state, so that’s two different people liking the same cow.”
Mr Crawford has his eyes firmly set on the next competition for the cow.
“We’ll head to International Dairy Week in the middle of January, that’s our next stage and we’ll see how we go,” he said.
“We’ll take six to eight cows down to Victoria.”
