SHELLHARBOUR City Sharks utility player Dylan McGregor completed a memorable season when he was named the winner of the prestigious Michael Cronin Medal at the VB South Coast Group 7 Rugby League presentation at Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club on Friday night.

McGregor (69 points) finished ahead of Kiama Knights front-rower Luke Sutton (47) and Warilla Gorilla’s Jesse Dee (43), an amazing performance from Dee considering he missed a total of nine games during the season.
The competition is voted on by referees and touch judges on a 3-2-1 basis, meaning six points are available to players in each game.
McGregor took the competition by storm, polling 44 of the 45 points available in the first five rounds, opening up a 30-point lead on the rest of the field and polled enough points from there to take the medal.
Other major award winners on the night were Milton-Ulladulla captain Cheyanne Hatch who won the Women’s League Tag Player of the Year, while Albion Park Outlaws’ Chris Daniel won the Athol Noble Medal as Third Grade Player of the Year.
Milton-Ulladulla juniors Tarje Whitford and Liam Conlon were joint winners of the Kevin Walsh Scholarship Award, presented by the late Mr Walsh’s son Greg, while Gerringong Lions and Warilla-Lake South Gorillas shared the Leo O’Dwyer Trophy for the most competition points in the second round of the competition.
The Atfield family from Nowra-Bomaderry won the Harold Alcock Trophy for Outstanding Contribution to the Game, Kiama Knights’ Dylan Morris won the Bill James Trophy as Under-18 Player of the Year and Warilla-Lake South five-eighth Blair Grant won the Roy Stewart Memorial Trophy as Rookie of the Year.
League life member and historian John O’Dwyer received a special appreciation award for his contribution to the season, while Australian cricket legend Doug Walters was special guest speaker and kept the small crowd entertained with stories of his career.
