KidzFix handed the keys over to NETS Ambulance officials at a ceremony in Nowra on Saturday.
Over the past decade 900 local children have been transported from Shoalhaven District Hospital using the service and now Nowra has it’s very own.
It took $150,000 and two years of hard work and fundraising from KidzFix to get the project off the ground.
Bendigo Bank Nowra and Santuary Point branches donated the $60,000 for the purchase of the vehicle. With many other local charities and individuals jumping on-board to raise the remaining money to fit out the interior with modern medical equipment.
“It wouldn’t have happened without the support of our local community,” KidzFix’s Tony Emery said.
“It means young children up to 16-years, who need the NETS service, have it available to them much quicker and in worse weather conditions than in the past.”
State-wide, one in 40 children use the NETS Ambulance system.
“That’s an extraordinary figure,” Mr Emery said.
“When NETS approached us about bringing an ambulance to the Shoalhaven, KidzFix thought it was a great idea, so we all got behind it.”
However, the team at KidzFix are not finished just yet.
“There’s some more kit we would like to put into it,” Mr Emery said
“A humidicrib for instance, which are not in regular ambulances either.
“There’s about another $25,000 we would like to put towards more kit for this ambulance and make it even more useful.”
