The Nowra local became the youngest person to receive the Giving Youth Flight Training Support (GYFTS) scholarship from Recreation Aviation Australia.
The scholarship valued at $2500 will go towards helping Elyzia gain her pilot’s certificate.
Elyzia’s grandmother and carer Jenni Quin said Elyzia was presented with the scholarship in Canberra recently after her essay piqued the judge’s interest.
“She had to write a 1500 word essay why she wished to fly and how she proposed to use her experience or qualifications gained and she also had to get quite a few referrals. On the night, unbeknownst to her she also had to do an impromptu speech,” she said.
“Everyone gave her lots of comments about how well she did and how confidently she spoke.”
Mrs Quin said the young aviatrix is hoping to fly solo by April 2017.
