The future of the historic Spotlight building in the Nowra CBD remains up in the air.
At least two companies are interested in leasing the space, while another group has put forward a proposal to purchase the building with the aim to demolish it and redevelop the location.
The South Coast Register understands the proposal would include mixed retail, a food court parking and residential living on top.
The two companies looking at leasing the building are major retailers, who were considering coming to the Shoalhaven, having previously looked at locations in South Nowra.
The building is owned by an Australian family investment company, based in Queensland.
The Register revealed last week homeware store Harris Scarfe, which has a premises in Junction Street, Nowra may be one of the business to have expressed an interest in the location but the company would not comment on its lease arrangements or intentions.
The 1889 building in Berry Street, which also fronts onto Stewart Place and Emporium Lane, has been the former home to Woodhills, Mates, Emmotts, Youngs and Grace Bros and more recently Spotlight.
