The couple met at Tomerong and were married at All Saints Anglican Church in Nowra on May, 23, 1966.
Philip was a builder and travelled around to different places for work living in a caravan with his new wife Shirley.
After their first daughter was born, and then another daughter, the van began to get a bit small for the growing family so they bought some acres behind Albatross from Philip's mum and dad.
Philip, with the help of Shirley, built their family home and this is where they stayed for about 25 years.
On the farm Philip and Shirley raised seven children- the house very soon got an extension.
Philip was a well-known and respected builder around the Shoalhaven and Shirley had her hands full at home with the children.
There was always extra people sleeping on the rumpus room floor at the house with all the children’s friends always welcome.
On the farm the family had chickens, pigs, birds, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, kangaroos, horses and Philip’s favourite, the Brahman cattle.
The children milked cows, went horse riding, motor bike riding, ferreting, swimming in the back water hole, drove tractors and learnt to drive.
After selling the farm Philip, with the assistance this time of his son, built again at Crams Rd North Nowra and this is where they still reside now.
Philip’s mother and brother also moved into this house. Needing constant care, Philip and Shirley took on the task and the house has also seen lots of children, grandchildren and even great grand children living there from time to time.
Philip and Shirley at the present time, along with their seven children, have 21 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, with more on the way.
Philip and Shirley are never too busy to help out their family and friends and in their spare time Philip enjoys fishing, Ebay and tinkering. Shirley enjoys doll making, sewing, cross stitch and caravanning when they can.
Many happy memories have also been made at Crams Rd including the 50th anniversary party held there on Saturday, April 23 with lots of families attending.
Philip and Shirley will hopefully be enjoying a scenic seaplane flight and overnight stay and meals at Jonah's as a gift from all their families for their anniversary gift.
