NSW Seniors Week officially runs from Friday, April 1 until Sunday, April 10 and Shoalhaven City Council has organised and promoted a number of local activities, designed to encourage health, fitness and sociability among older residents.
The Shoalhaven Heads Lions Club will host a seniors get together on Monday, April 4 at the Heads Community Centre from 10am until noon for a gold coin donation. The club provides a setting for seniors to get together to interact and make connections. The event will include morning tea and entertainment. Phone 0406 008 466.
Also on Monday, the Culburra & District Senior Citizens Association will have a Seniors Week luncheon starting at noon in the Waratah Hall of Culburra Beach Community Hall. RSVP is required to 4447 2337.
On Tuesday, April 5 the Berry Men’s Shed will host a free open day from 9am until noon at 146 North Street, Berry. It’s an opportunity to visit the shed to enjoy tours and to see what members are making and how they make it. Phone 4464 2619 or 0448 712 131.
A morning matinee at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre will be staged on Tuesday. Over There is a 90 minute concert featuring the hit songs and stories from the war years. The show starts at 11am, with morning tea served beforehand. The cost is $25 a ticket, or $20 for groups of five or more. Phone the centre on 4429 5753 to book.
Bay and Basin Leisure Centre will run Gentle Fit, an exercise program for older people, on Tuesday at 11.30am. The cost is $9.80 concession. Phone 4406 2022.

On Wednesday, April 6 seniors are invited to take a tour of two of Shoalhaven Water’s major treatment facilities. The tour is free and runs from 9am until 1pm with morning tea provided. Bookings are essential by phoning 4429 3214.
Nowra Stroke and Carers Group will meet for morning tea on Wednesday at Peckish on the Park from 10am until 11.30am. The cost is $7.50 each. Phone 4422 1353.
Sussex Inlet Community Church will put on an open door lunch, also on Wednesday, at noon. The free lunch will feature a singalong and a performance by the ukulele club at 175 Jacobs Drive. Phone 4441 1708.
Community Gateway will launch its volunteer program on Thursday, April 7 at the hub on the corner of Berry and Plunkett streets in Nowra from 10.30am until noon. Seniors are invited to attend a free morning tea to celebrate the launch. The event is an opportunity for the skills, experience and attributes of seniors to be recognised and celebrated. Swim and fitness classes will run from April 4-8 at Bomaderry Aquatic Centre and seniors can bring a friend to Aqua Fit for free.
