Five boats transported the volunteers to different sections of the river and volunteers cleaned up rubbish along 12 kilometres of riverbank including Pig Island, Numbaa Island, Broughton Creek, Nowra Creek and Bomaderry Creek.
Ninety cleanup bags were filled with rubbish. A large proportion of the rubbish were glass and plastic beverage bottles and plastic bags. Shoalhaven City Council provided a four cubic metre skip bin at Gray's Beach which was more than filled.
The group will soon complete the Shoalhaven Sand Sausage and fencing on Numbaa Island.
This will spend the remainder of the grant money, $7900 obtained recently to undertake rehabilitation work on the Island .
The next working bee will be on Monday, March 14 meeting at 9am at the Numbaa boat ramp.
