Vynes, for the second consecutive year, claimed the award at the NSW State Titles Wakeboarding Competition last weekend.
Vynes placed second in the five State Summer series rounds and came out on top, to win the championship on the Hawkesbury River.
“State title day was the best I have rode all year,” Vynes said.
“The do-or-die moments, of the elimination rounds, brought the best out in me.
“Thankfully, I got all my tricks in and landed them all perfectly.
“The pressure didn’t really affect me, but it could have done to the others, which resulted me in coming out on top.”
The only pressure Vynes felt was that everyone wanted to beat him this year, being the reigning champion.
“There was a lot more pressure this year, coming in as the reigning champion,” he said.
“But despite other trying to bring me down, I kept my bar set high and achieved what I went there to do.”
Qualifying for the nationals in Canberra at the end of March, Vynes is looking forward to taking full advantage of his unique Malibu style.
“I feel like it’s all coming together for me now and I’m excited about the opportunity to compete with Australia’s best,” he said.
“I’ve learned so much about the sport and myself and I’m looking forward to stepping it up to the next level.”
