John recently became very ill and is hospitalised in Wollongong, where he will continue to stay for some time.
A group of friends has organised a GoFundMe account to help Violet continue driving to Wollongong to see John every day.
One of the organisers, Trish Ikon said they’re hoping to raise $5000 for both Violet’s travelling costs and future expenses involved in John’s recovery.
“When John returns home he will require some changes to the home environment to allow him and Violet to be comfortable and manage his needs,” she said.
“Please consider contributing to this very worthy couple as they go through this very difficult time.”
Violet recently won the NSW Grandparent of the Year Recognition Certificate and along with John, has been serving breakfast to more than 100 children every day for the last 12 years as part of Nowra East Public School’s Breakfast Club Program.
The couple has also fostered more than 100 children over the past 40 years and continue to do so today.
“They have most certainly given their own time and opened their home unconditionally over many years and most definitely deserve all the support we can provide to them,” Trish said.
“Violet and John are precious members of our community and we are very proud for this opportunity to support them.”
