A family fun walk and barbecue was held at Moona Moona creek in Huskisson as part of a national event called ‘StepUP! for Down syndrome’.
The annual event is about bringing people together in their local areas, celebrating the achievements of people with Down Syndrome and raising funds for Down Syndrome NSW.
Nowra residents, Margaret Perkins and her daughter Rosa were the main organisers and even kept the rain way.
After enjoying a relaxing stroll from Moona Moona Creek to Huskisson White Sands Park and back everyone enjoyed a sausage sizzle, drinks and were entertained by the fabulous ‘Southern Stompers” Jazz Band, John van Droone with his famous puppets and playful clowns John Watts and Maryanne Atkins.
This is the first time the event has been held on the South Coast and is one of fourteen events being held across the country during October as part of World Down Syndrome Awareness month.
The event raised more than $1000, both online and on the day. More than $500 worth of merchandise was also sold.
