Commander of the Fleet Air Arm Commodore Vince Di Pietro passed his 1000th flying hour and Sub Lieutenant Jarrod Huisman his 500th in Squirrel helicopters from 723 Squadron.
Commodore Di Pietro, who is coming to the end of his long and distinguished career, has flown numerous aircraft since graduating from 101 pilots course in December 1977, but marked the significant occasion alongside SBLT Huisman, who is just starting his flying career.
The pair were aboard the Squirrel helicopter, A350BA.
The Huisman family has a long association with the naval air station, with Jarrod’s parents running the local Naval Reserve Cadet unit.
