Brandon will be taking part in the Sydney Morning Herald’s half marathon on Sunday, May 17 and will be raising money for the R.U.O.K charity.
He said R.U.O.K was something he was happy to support.
“R.U.O.K has a simple but such a powerful message,” he said.
“All of us have been in a situation where we would have liked someone to ask if we were OK.”
By asking friends, work mates or family members if they were OK Brandon said it showed those who were struggling with various issues that people care about them.
To get ready for his run Brandon has been following a training program and watching what he eats and drinks.
“I have not been doing as much training as I should,” he said.
Ironically his preparation suffered a setback when he twisted his left ankle while on a training run.
“I am back on track but the injury did slow me down,” he said.
Now back in full training he runs around five to six kilometres several times a week.
When visiting his partner Crystal Scocco in Sydney, who suggested he do the run in the first place, Brandon was on a training run and got to run over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
“Running over the harbour bridge was unreal,” he said
More used to running up and down a cricket pitch or coming into bowl for Berry-Shoalhaven Heads Brandon has never run 21 kilometres before in his life and has not done much running before.
“I used to do some running to prepare for the cricket season,” Mr Brandon said.
He is looking forward to the challenge.
“It’s about pacing yourself and I want to finish,” he said.
He wants to raise $500 for R.U.O.K and his donation page is https://smh2015halfmarathon.everydayhero.com/au/glenn and all donations will be appreciated.
