Sophie Heggie was among them and thought of Mr Morey-Hype as a brother.
Twenty five-year-old Mr Morey-Hype who lived in Bomaderry was killed in a collision between two cars on the Princes Highway just north of the Shoalhaven River bridge.
Ms Heggie said as the news spread members of the group gathered at Stewart Place car park to support each other.
The group gathers in Nowra each week.
“We are like a big family and Will was a mentor to the young ones and a brother to the rest of us,” she said.
She said it was a comfort that members of the group came together to hear the news.
“Will was pretty outgoing and he wasn’t afraid to tell you what he thought,” she said.
“He was always on motorbikes and four-wheel-drives, he loved life and he loved cars.
“Will used to get younger kids and educate them about modifying their cars.
“He would make them do it the right way so they don’t get pulled up about it.”
She said he also had a way of helping the younger members of the group who wanted to drive fast to do so in a safe environment.
“He would invite the young kids to the drag races in Sydney to let them get it out of their system,” she said.
“He was like a brother to those of us who grew up with him.”
