The company, through its own in-house corporate property division Fabcot, has lodged its application with Shoalhaven City Council for a full range Woolworths store on the former John Bull Centre site near the corner of the Princes Highway and Cambewarra Road.
Fabcot, which is responsible for the construction, development and management of Woolworths’ retail centres around Australia, purchased the property in June last year for more than $3 million.
The 25,000 square metres (2.47 hectares) site has frontages to both Princes Highway and Cambewarra Road, is predominantly vacant, except for the KFC restaurant located to north-western corner of the site and a nursery on the south-western corner.
The land was home to the John Bull Centre, destroyed by a huge fire in July 2011.
The single level supermarket would have a gross floor area of 3860 square metres and include a mini-major retail tenancy of 1440 square metres and two 100 square metre specialty retail stores.
The application stated the building would only be 10 metres tall at its highest point.
It is planned to construct two new access and exit points off Cambewarra Road to the car parking area and loading dock, while there would also be modifications to current access off the highway, including the construction of an associated slip lane.
The development will provide 296 car parking spaces, including eight disabled, five motorcycle parks and 14 bicycle rails.
The supermarket will operate from 6am to midnight, seven days a week.
The company said the application meets both the Shoalhaven Local Environ-ment and Shoalhaven Devel-opment Control plans.
The area is zone B5 business development, which allows for a number of uses including a mix of business and warehouses, and bulky goods premises.
