Bell, 23, was airlifted to St George Hospital in a serious condition after a motorcycle accident on Greenwell Point Road at Pyree last Wednesday afternoon.
The talented all-rounder with the Bomaderry club, was found lying on the grass verge with serious injuries after his bike left the road west of Pyree Lane about 5.20pm, colliding with the stone wall entrance into a nearby property.
He suffered numerous fractures to his ribs and spine.
Late last week he was heavily sedated and on a ventilator to help him breath.
His older brother Jason said “he regained consciousness for a while on Friday responding to questions by nodding and also by writing on paper”.
“That was a massive positive,” he said.
“He fractured most of his ribs, front and back on both sides. Fractured vertebrae but no damage to the spinal cord.
“He has no other broken bones. No head injuries. He should heal on his own.”
On the weekend he was moved to ICU2, the ventilator was removed and he was breathing on his own.
On Tuesday he sat up for the first time.
