Each year, Mrs Moore visits CCM Angaine in Kenya and helps to renovate it using money donated from local fund-raisers.
This year the Shoalhaven community raised more than $5500 at local fund-raisers including a barbecue at Bunnings, South Nowra and a charity cinema event at the Roxy Cinema in Nowra.
“This year’s visit was by far our most successful,” she said.
“We helped to paint four of the high school classrooms with the help of some of the senior students, constructed three girls’ toilets, fitted eight skylights into classrooms and bought 27 chickens.
“We were only there for the day.
“The teachers and students were so grateful, I just love Africa, the people and the culture,” she said.
The group also took various donated items for the children.
“We had a lot of toys and parachutes for the children to play with in the school yard and local knitters were very handy in making clothing like beanies, dresses and jumpers,” she said.
“I just want to say thank you to all the people who helped raise the money and for all the extra donated items.
“We bought about $600 worth of paint and then there were paintbrushes and other things for the toilets and skylights to buy,” she said.
“It is not easy to go and buy what you need in Africa, but we did it.
“The chickens were bought locally too and they will lay enough eggs to feed the orphan children.”
Mrs Moore said she plans on taking another trip to Africa in June 2015. Anyone interested in supporting the cause could phone her on 4421 0132.
