Shoalhaven Police have reported an increase in the number of wallets and handbags being stolen with 12 incidents during September, the majority from vehicles left unlocked with the items in plain view.
Suburbs targeted include Nowra, Culburra Beach, Huskisson, Narrawallee and Ulladulla.
Police said thieves walk down streets going from vehicle to vehicle looking in windows for items of value.
Once a wallet is seen it only takes a matter of seconds for a thief to smash the window and steal it.
The victim loses their wallet and has the costly repair of the window.
Police said people need to be vigilant by removing items of value from their vehicles.
As summer approaches police also reminded beach goers and people visiting parks to ensure they did not leave valuables in their cars.
Beachside car parks are a prime target for thieves with Seven Mile Beach, Abraham Bosom Reserve at Currarong, Moona Moona Beach at Huskisson and the cliffs at Mundamia and Greenfields Beach all hotspots.
