Strong construction activity in the Nowra region is proving a boon for local concrete supplier Boral.
The company is providing concrete to three major projects, the $8.5 million Quest apartment block, the $7 million Nowra pool upgrade and the $4.83 million Nowra GP Super Clinic.
On Wednesday, in one of the biggest one-day pours in the area for quite some time, contractors laid 450 cubic metres for the ground floor level of the Quest apartments.
Albury based Joss Constructions is constructing the 40 apartment multi-level block, on the site of the old Mazda car yard at the intersection of Kinghorne and Plunkett streets.
The concrete was pumped to the ground floor level where the contractors vibrated it into position before screeding it off.
Boral’s South Coast concrete production manager Paul Repanellis said the company used 10 trucks to deliver more than 80 loads of concrete to the site during Wednesday’s pour.
“There is more concrete to be delivered to that project in coming weeks,” he said.
“Concrete was supplied from our batching plants at Nowra and Huskisson as well as raw materials from the local Boral quarry at Burrier.
“Last month we started to supply concrete into the Nowra GP Super Clinic on Scenic Drive which will involve approximately 1200 cubic metres over the coming months,” he said.
The pour for the ground floor of the super clinic, around 160 cubic metres, took place on Friday.
The company will also provide the concrete for the Nowra pool project, with the pour for the floor section, which will be laid in three separate sections, believed to be early this week.
The floor alone will eventually be 275 cubic metres of concrete, with the first pour alone to be 92 cubic metres.
Mr Repanellis said Boral will eventually supply 1200 cubic metres of concrete to the pool project.
“As a result of stronger construction activity in the Nowra region, there has been a good increase in demand for our concrete,” he said.
“This is good news for employees and for the local economy in the Shoalhaven area.”
