TRIPLE THREAT: Brian Kinlyside, Tedd Starr and Ray Cumberland were crowned the 2014 triples champions.

TED Starr, Ray Cumberland and Brian Kinlyside won the Shoalhaven Heads Men’s Bowling Club triples final on Saturday afternoon in what was a very cold day topped up with gusty winds that came from every direction possible.

The winners did not hit the front until late in the game, and managed to extend a very well earned margin of one shot to two shots on the last end to snatch victory.

Congratulations to all players, thanks to umpire R. Presgrave and controlling body G. Winstanley and all the spectators, some who came from as far away as Bronte, for braving the weather to watch the game.

The Davenport Pairs will be played on Saturday September 13, starting at 9.30am.

Game one, then a light lunch with game two in the afternoon.

We also offer good prize-money, with 32 teams to be accommodated only, get in quick for this ever popular event. There are still some vacancies.

Coming soon after we have the Wray Owen Jerry Bailey Triples.

This year the format is changed, with game one to be played on Saturday, October 18, from 12.30pm and then on Sunday, October 19 we play game two, have a light lunch and then play game two in the afternoon. Another great incentive by the SHBandRCL, in their development of the game of bowls is to provide, at no cost to new members of the SHBandRCL, who are new to the game of bowls, free coaching by our club coach, Russ McCauley, who will, on the completion of their coaching lessons, be eligible to join the SHWBC or SHMBC for their first year, free of cost.

A big thank you to the SHBandRCL Club for stepping up to provide such an incentive to new bowlers.

I am pleased to report that so far two new female bowlers and one male bowler have or are about to become members with one more female waiting to recover from surgery before starting coaching lessons.
