Riversdale 7, owned by the Barrington family, sold for $2.35 million when it went under the hammer on Saturday, June 21.
The luxurious and environmentally friendly home, set on almost an acre on the southern headland of Mollymook Beach, was described as a “rare offering” by Andrea Tucker from Tucker Real Estate, whose new boutique agency made the sale.
She said there had been a lot of interest in the home and it had been heavily marketed locally and in Sydney and Canberra over the six weeks leading up to the auction.
More than 100 people attended the on-site auction of the home that had been owned by the Barrington family for 45 years.
The property was purchased by a businessman who owned other property in the area and visited often.
Ms Tucker said she and the owners, Dom Barrington and Ollie and Marianne Cool, were “ecstatic” with the sale.
“This is arguably one of the district’s finest properties,” she said.
“I don’t think there is another property in our area that compares, in terms of the location, privacy and the tasteful way it has been renovated.
“It really is quite unique.”
She said homes in Riversdale Avenue near the Beachside Golf Course rarely came up for sale and the location was highly sought after.
The home was fully rebuilt in 2007, at a cost of $700,000 and boasted many sustainable features, including water tanks, bamboo flooring, two way fireplace and water recycling which resulted in the property winning the 2008 Shoalhaven Building Design Award for Sustainability.
