Police were called to the northern end of the Nowra CBD at 10.20am after a 21-year-old man, who is not considered dangerous,  jumped out of the van and ran off while it was stopped at the traffic lights at the intersection of the Princes Highway and  Moss Street.

He had earlier been released from Nowra Local Court on conditional bail on the undertaking he would attend a rehabilitation centre in Shellharbour.

Up to five police cars converged on the area searching for the man, which was originally reported as an “escapee”.

The search was later “downgraded” to a breach of bail offence.

Officers patrolled the area around Moss and Graham streets, McGrath Avenue and Harry Sawkins Park looking for man, including the underpass of the highway near the Nowra Skate Park.

Police have attended his last known addresses and are making further inquiries.

POLICE are searching for a man who breached bail, fleeing from an Aboriginal Service vehicle, while on his way to a rehabilitation centre in Shellharbour.
